Frequently Asked Questions
about our HD Royalty Free Animations

A word about the online demos:
1. All demos are in QuickTime and are low resolution with reduced size. They are NOT full size. This greatly reduces the demo size to allow for faster download times for viewing.
2. All demos are only at 15 fps, not the full 29.97 fps or 30 fps that the animations come in. This allows for faster download times of the demo.
3. All demos are watermarked with the words "Studio 1 Productions" across them. This will NOT appear on the version you purchase.

Can I download the animations?
No, we only offer them on DVD-R disks.  Our animations are uncompressed to give you the highest quality.  This results is very large file sizes.  Each volume of animations is anywhere from 4 to 16 gigabytes, requiring 1 to 4 DVDs.  Downloading this amount of data would not only take several hours (depending upon your internet connection), but would require a huge bandwidth allocation.  We offer over 3000 animations and we would need several terabytes of online hard disk storage to make them available as a download.

Can I buy just 1 or 2 animations or do I have to purchase the whole package?
Animations are ONLY sold as a complete package. We have them priced low enough to make the affordable to everyone. In addition, we just don't have the time or man power to burn a custom disk for someone with just 1 or 2 animations. We hope you understand.

What Type of Disk are They Provided On:
Industry Standard DVD-R

Can I Play the Animation DVD's directly in my DVD player that is connected to my TV?
No, they are not playable in a regular DVD player that you use to watch DVD's on your home TV.  The files on the DVD's are for use in video editing packages.

Why do we have different versions of each animation?
Since there are so many programs out there supporting HD and HDV editing, we wanted to make sure that you would have the correct file types, so we have included different file types in each package.

HD is 1920 x 1080
Most people who will use HD at 1920 x 1080 will use these animations.

HDV is 1440 x 1080
Most people editing with HDV content will use the HDV 1440 x 1080, 29.97 fps animations.

Are the animations I buy from Studio 1 Productions full resolution and full size?
Absolutely. They are full resolution and broadcast quality, in the 16 x 9 format. Please see the next questions below.

When I try to view the HDV QuickTime version using QuickTime the picture doesn't look wide screen or 16 x 9.
This is because HDV 1440 x 1080 uses a 1.33 pixel ratio. In QuickTime they may not look 16 x 9, but in QuickTime, simply click on Window at the top of the QuickTime screen and then click on Show Movie Info. You will see the size as 1440 x 1080. When you are working with HDV in your NLE system it will be displayed correctly in the 16 x 9 format.

Why doesn't the animation play smoothly in QuickTime or in Windows Media Player?
That's simple, they are VERY LARGE in size and due to the amount of data that needs to be transferred for each frame MOST computers can NOT play them back smoothly from a stand alone program. Once you put them into your NLE and export to a DVD, they will play smoothly in your final product.

When I try to view the animation in QuickTime, it won't fit on the screen.
To make it fit on the screen, click on View at the top of QuickTime and select Half Size. WARNING - DO NOT SAVE IT in the Half Size or it will reduce the animation size to half and it will import as a half size. It is best to view the small demos on the disk instead.

How can I see each animation?
We have provided both small low resolution demos and small JPG pictures.

Should I copy them to the hard drive?
Yes, it is required to copy the animations you want to use to the hard drive in order to use them. Trying to read them from the DVD directly into you NLE system will not work properly.

How will I know the format of the animation on the DVD?
You will find different folders on each DVD: HD, HDV, HD30, WM9, Preview, Small JPG
The HD folder has animations that are HD 1980 x 1080 at 29.97 fps in QuickTime. The filenames start with HD.
The HD30 folder has animations that are HD 1980 x 1080 at 30 fps in QuickTime. The filenames start with HDH.
The HDV folder has animations that are HDV 1440 x 1080 at 29.97 fps in QuickTime. The filenames start with HDV.
The WM9 folder has animations that are HDV 1440 x 1080 at 29.97 fps in WM9. The filename start with WM9.
The Preview folder has small, low resolution previews.
The Small JPG folder has small JPG photos of each animation.

Are all the animations loopable?
Almost all of the animations are loopable. All of the animations that are labeled "loopable" will allow you to loop them seamlessly. There are a handful that are not labeled loopable, but have a very long runtime.

Who is using Studio 1 Productions animations?
We have a large list of clients, including ABC, ESPN, Fox, NASA, CBS, PBS and many other TV stations, videographers and in-house corporate video departments.

Don't all animations come pre-rendered?
All of the ones from Studio 1 Productions are pre-rendered. Not all companies provide them this way. With some companies once you get the animation you need to put it on your time line and render it to the format you are using. This can be very time consuming, that is why we provide them pre-rendered in QuickTime and WM9 format. So all you have to do is import them into your editing software and drop them on the time line and you are done.

Why don't we show a full resolution demo of the clips?
Well, it would take a long time to download just 1 clip to demo it. Some clips are as much as 500 megs to 2 Gig in size, thus taking several hours to demo 1 clip. Therefore, all demos are reduced size and at a lower resolution and only 15 frams per second. This allow for the previews to load much faster.

Can the animations be used on a website?
You must understand that these animations are intended for use in HD and HDV video productions, film productions and for TV. Since the animation come in a resolution and screen size for video and film productions, you will need to convert them to a smaller size yourself. You MAY need to convert them to a .wmv format, depending upon your needs. We DO NOT provide any support on how to do this. You need to consult someone with web design experience.

What Is Your Refund Policy On Animations?
We have provided demos for each animation online. There are NO refunds on animations (or music, software and stock footage) since they can be copied to a hard drive and still used in a production after the masters have been returned. This is why we provide online demos. Defective items will items will be exchanged for the EXACT same item. There are NO exceptions to this policy.
